Ugh. Car accidents are no fun.

I was in a comparatively minor car accident on Monday. It was a one-car accident; I was getting ready to pass a tow truck on my way to work (ironic, yes), and I scooted over to the left side of my own lane. I checked my blind spot, and there was a truck in it, so I corrected back into my own lane. My car reacted like I was on ice; I started fishtailing wildly, and then veered across the left lane and into the barrier in the median. I am so very grateful that the truck in my blind spot had passed me by then, and that there weren't any cars close behind us, and that I had enough following distance that I didn't have to worry about the car in front of me. Anyway, I was able to open my door and get out; no bones broken, just pretty well shaken up. The man in the truck had stopped, and so had the lady driving the car who I think was the next one behind me; and, this being Southern California, another tow truck happened to be cruising by and stop within about two minutes, too. The tow truck driver called the police and AAA for me; I called Josh, who was actually scheduled to be in his office at the university all day (for which I am also very grateful!). He came right down. Turns out I did have a couple of little cuts on my head, and was bleeding, but the lady who had stopped asked me if I had a first aid kit, which I did, so she got it out of the trunk, put on the gloves, and very kindly cleaned me up.

Anyway, it was a very exciting morning and a scary sort of adventure. Josh stayed home with me all day Monday, and I didn't go into bad shock or have a concussion or anything. But I've been pretty sore yesterday and today. And I have a bruised ego, because I've always had a perfect driving record, and whatever happened to make the car fishtail, I wish I could've pulled out of it. (The assessor says that there could've been diesel on the road, or anything like that.) Our poor beautiful car got really crunched all along the left side, and the driver's side window smashed; it's not totaled, just expensive to fix.

I am very grateful for the blessings in this, though! I'm so grateful that we have good insurance coverage (they're paying for a rental car while ours gets fixed), that we have an affordable deductible, that I didn't hit any other cars, that I came out with only some little cuts and bruises, that Josh was close by and didn't have far-away appointments that day, that my job is pretty low-key right now so I could miss Monday without any trouble. And I am so grateful that in all of our California commuting (which is crazy-driver mania), Josh and I have each only had one accident, and we've both walked away pretty much fine. Please, everybody, do pray for protection and safety when you say your morning prayers; even if crazy things happen, Heavenly Father can smooth out the bumps. (And even if you bonk your head pretty hard, He may keep you from getting a concussion.) :)

I'm so glad you're okay! That sounds so scary!

Yeah, well that barrier shouldn't have been mouthing off at you like that. I hope it learned its lesson.

Wow. I do wonder what happened to the road. I'm glad you weren't hurt and hope the car repair goes well for you.

Yikes! I'm glad you're okay. And I hope your driving ego gets better, too. :) I think you can keep it--one accident with the crazy drivers down here is not bad at all in my opinion. It's a JUNGLE out there! :) (Okay, maybe that's not the best metaphor, but, it's pretty chaotic.) Glad you're okay.

I was going to reply to your other comment, too--yes, we are going home for Christmas. Yay! :) How fun that your family is coming down here! That will be a blast, I'm sure! Tell them all hello! They are great. :)

Glad you're okay, again.

Holy craziness! Heavenly Father really is watching out for us. Too bad you had to be physically reminded of that. . . but also relieving, in a way. : ) Glad you're okay! We can empathize with the not-fun-with-car-accidents (we've had 2 ourselves).
